Bienvenue
Welcome back from March break! I hope everyone had some time to relax and spend time with your family and friends this past week.
We will continue our learning about French food and restaurants this week. Students will be examining the menu from "Cafe Delf", and choosing a meal within a pretend budget they have been given. They will then be writing a short opinion paragraph about their choices, and sharing that in a discussion with a group. In this, we are starting the path towards students being able to express their opinions in French! As this work may continue into next week, another update will come when we have moved on to the next activity. A la prochaine! Mme Sambol

The last month has seen some great learning in Core French.
Our grade 8 students have been studying the passé composé and learning to express themselves in the past tense. They wrote a test just last week, which you have since seen come home. Our learning will continue through the rest of the year as we use past tense to express ourselves when speaking. Our grade 7's have just finished studying Mardi Gras and the expulsion of the Acadians. They were able to learn and explore a variety of facets of la francophonie in the Louisiana area. Students in grade 7 have also written a test on this subject, which you should have recently seen come home. Starting last week, we began a new unit called AU CAFE DELF. Students will be learning how to interact in a French restaurant. We have begun by listening to a song to help introduce some of the vocabulary in the unit, and will soon begin to work on French menus! As Term 1 reports have now gone home, should you have any questions regarding your child's progress, please feel free to contact me to schedule an interview. A la prochaine! Mme Sambol My apologies for not updating sooner!
The end of January saw our class very busy with student-led inquiry, as they wrapped up their unit on personal introductions by researching and reporting on a French celebrity. Students were quite engaged in the task, and learned a lot about a variety of current and historical French figures. What a great opportunity for us to discuss in brief the rise of the French revolution, the role France has played in the two world wars, and as well the challenges faced by the people of Haiti, both in their founding and today. Students have received their rubrics and many have brought them back now with a signature. Should you have any questions regarding your child's progress, please contact me through my email address [email protected]. Having finished our Je me present unit, students are spending the last week of January and the first week or two of February learning in two short mini-units. Our Grade 7 students are exploring Mardi-gras and the rich history and French culture that is imbedded in these celebrations. Our Grade 8's are working more directly with me to learn and put into practice the verb tense "passe-compose" which will allow them to (finally!) be able to correctly say "I HAVE....". This learning will culminate with a test, likely to come in the next two weeks. Please look in your child's agenda for notes on the date of this test. An update will come next week on our progress through this new learning! Merci! Mme Sambol |
